Records are available from 1949 to today.  Prior to 1949, searches may be conducted on archived records, which may increase the turnaround times.
A signed release is not required.
Certified copies of the certificate are available.
Delivery Time: Turnaround time is approximately 14 - 30 business days. Results are e-mailed to you, faxed on request or mailed if a paper copy or a certified copy of the marriage certificate is required. We cannot guarantee turnaround time as we are dependent on the state getting back to us in a timely fashion, and this can vary widely with the load that the records office is experiencing. County offices have limited personnel and are often swamped with paper work.

The state of Tennessee has a number of specific requirements.  You MUST provide the following or we will be unable to process your request: 

  • Groom’s Full Name

  • Bride’s Full Maiden Name

  • Date of Marriage

  • City/County where the Marriage License was Issued

  • Your relationship to these Individuals  

In General:  There are two separate documents: the marriage license is a legal document that authorizes a designated party to perform the ceremony, allowing you to get married; and the marriage certificate is the document that shows that the nuptials took place and is the official document that proves you are married.

Note: USAVital does NOT issue marriage licenses for people who wish to get married in Tennessee. Only the state or county in which the marriage is to take place can do that. We provide Marriage Certificate records for marriages that have already taken place.

Typically, couples obtain a marriage license from their local court house, hold the wedding ceremony, and then have the person who performed the ceremony file a marriage certificate in the appropriate Tennessee county court office within an appropriate time period. This may be the office of the local County Clerk, Recorder or Registrar of Vital Statistics, depending on where you live. The married couple will be sent a certified copy of the marriage certificate within a few weeks after the marriage ceremony.

Fraudulent or Contested Credit Card Charges
Credit card fraud is an ongoing problem. For unsubstantiated, contested, or fraudulent credit card charges, there will be an additional $25.00 MINIMUM processing charge, PLUS collection and legal fees, IF incurred. If you call to cancel your order BEFORE the order is processed, then there will be a $15 cancellation charge assessed. BUT please be advised that ONCE your request has been transmitted to our researchers it is NOT possible for us to cancel the charges, or change or expedite the order.
